Stanley Park Fieldtrip - Rain or Shine!









Here are the details about our field trip to Stanley Park next week.

Morning class

When: Monday, April 22nd - Earth Day
Where:  Meet in the classroom at 9 a.m. sharp and we will take the number 19 bus together to Stanley Park.
OR
If you prefer, you can meet us at the park. Please meet us at the end of Alberni St (at Chilco) at 9:45.
 

Afternoon class

When: Tuesday, April 23rd.
Where:  Meet in the classroom at 1 p.m. sharp and we will take the number 19 bus together to Stanley Park.
OR
If you prefer, you can meet us at the park. Please meet us at the end of Alberni St (at Chilco) at 1:45. 


Our meeting point is at the end of Alberni St.(B)

What are we going to do there?

We will take a walk through some of the inner paths of Stanley Park that you might not be familiar with. We will learn about:


-   the importance of Stanley Park to people and to the environment
-   the forest and wetland ecosystems in Stanley Park
-   historical presence of native peoples in the Park
-   examples of how native people used the resources of nature
-   the beavers at Beaver Lake
-   trees - how to identify the three main conifer species
-   whatever else may come up

What to wear

-  Wear comfortable footwear that you feel comfortable walking in for an hour.
-  Be prepared to walk on uneven ground and to step into mud and puddles.
-  Do not wear sandals or high heels.
-  Wear warm clothing, as it is cooler in the forest.
-  Bring an umbrella.

Translink Comes to ISS

Our class had a guest speaker from Translink and a tour of a bus today. We learned some essential information about public transit. Did you know you can text a bus stop to find out when the next bus is coming? We had a hands-on lesson about how to use the bike rack. Not only that, but did you know that buses can kneel? Pretty cool!

OWL's Open House this weekend

Here's a fun family activity that's going on this weekend. OWL, the Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society rescues and rehabilitates injured and orphaned birds. They specialize in birds of prey such as owls, hawks and eagles.

At the open house, you can talk to volunteers, tour the bird care centre, and watch a rehabilitated bird being released into the wild.


When: Saturday April 13 and Sunday April 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Remember: -ed ending is a feeling / -ing adjective describes something
Example:
Snakes are frightening. (-ing because frightening describes snakes)
I felt frightened when I saw the snake. (-ed because frightened is how I feel)
